Now THIS is really big news for the fly fishing industry!  In this column of Angling Trade, Kirk Deeter reports from the IFTD show in Reno, NV, that the handwriting is on the wall:  this is the last IFTD stand-alone trade show.  The major manufacturers and the dealers in attendance have reached a concensus and there is a new-born enthusiasm and cohesive vision for the future of AFFTA – a vision that doesn’t include a stand-alone trade show for the fly fishing industry hosted by AFFTA.

Personally…like the wise Mr. Deeter…I think this is a good thing that has been awhile in coming.  The fly fishing industry needs to learn to leverage its limited resources and to pull together instead of cannibalizing itself toward extinction.  It seems that AFFTA may be maturing into a leadership and facilitator role in this direction.  If so, I applaud them.
