May 18, 2013

This twelve minute video by Captain Mark Nichols shows and tells you everything you need to know about the new Airhead swim bait by DOA Lures. In my humble opinion, the DOA Airhead is a true step forward in swim bait technology.  It’s not just another variation on the same old theme.  The Airhead […]

Okuma Trio Review

May 5, 2013

I recently acquired an Okuma Trio high-speed retrieve spinning reel, which I’ve fished with about 3 times now. The Trio is a GREAT VALUE, priced just under $100 and having everything an angler needs in a saltwater-safe medium-light to medium duty spinning reel! Okuma has come a loooooooooooooong way in the past couple of years, […]

Hydrowave: Banned Tech in Hunting Comes to Fishing

April 23, 2013

http://www.hydrowave.com/inshore/product-summary.htm In waterfowl hunting, these systems are known as electronic callers, e-callers, or artificially amplified pre-recorded game attractors. They’re ILLEGAL for the reason stated below in the mfg’s description: “When used on a boat, this device is intended to give fishermen a considerable advantage in catching a greater number of ‘keeper’ fish.” Yes…an UN-SPORTING advantage. Two years ago, the biggest innovation in the history of navigational and recreational marine charting was introduced by Navionics:  Freshest Data, which includes the User-Generated Content layer (UGC).  Via Freshest Data, the global community of Navionics users (public and private boaters, marinas, etc.) input changes and corrections to the Navionics database in real time.  Navionics […]

Freedom Hawk Kayaks: Hindsight is 20/20

March 17, 2013

The design of the original Freedom Hawks was terrible -- a great concept poorly executed. The hulls were poked chock full of holes to rivet and screw stuff that could have and should have been molded into the hull. First rule of boat-building: never poke a hole through the hull unless it is the last friggin' resort for something absolutely necessary!

Everything on the battlefield is amplified by the always present threat of being maimed or killed. Going to the bathroom, eating breakfast, and taking a shower become important. Hell - drinking water becomes a matter of life or death in the here and now! As a warrior, you live like this 24/7/365.

Merry Christmas – Saltwater Style

December 24, 2012

Comments Off

When you live where it never snows and the economy and culture centers around saltwater fishing, so does Christmas.  When one of the dominant features of the front of most of the homes in your neighborhood is a boat, it only makes sense to incorporate them into your Christmas decorations.  Of course, some are more […]

The Best Paddle Can’t Fix This

December 17, 2012

Bending Branches pro staffer, Wade Harness, posted the following video to YouTube as an endorsement of the Bending Branches Angler Pro paddle.  I wholeheartedly agree with his choice in kayak paddles.  But look at what he has to say about his choice in kayaks:  Hobie’s ‘Pro Angler’ tri-hull design, is the widest in its class […]
